Elsevier study throws light on India's performance as benchmarked against other research nations

A recent study prepared by Elsevier for the UK's Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and based on Scopus data, shows that India has achieved substantial growth in research articles output, increasing from 54 thousand in 2008 to 93 thousand in 2012 at an annualized growth rate of 14.4%. This is a rate higher than that of China (10.9 percent), Brazil (7.9 percent), Russia (1.9 percent) and the U.K. (2.9 percent).

Wolters Kluwer Health has announced a partnership with Northern Light to distribute the Northern Light Life Sciences Conference Abstracts collection through its OvidSP medical research platform reaching thousands of institutional subscribers worldwide. Northern Light's Life Sciences Conference Abstracts is a bibliographic database containing abstracts and posters from more than one million research papers delivered at 1,400 life sciences industry events over the past four years.

ÜberResearch launches free funding wizard for ORCID

ÜberResearch, a provider of software solutions for research funders, has announced the launch of their free funding wizard for ORCID, under the name ÜberWizard. The wizard allows ORCID users to import and associate their funding data with their ORCID record, through a simple search-click-submit process.

The University of California selects Symplectic to implement a publication harvesting system to support UC's OA policy

The California Digital Library (CDL), in conjunction with University of California campus partners, has chosen Symplectic as the vendor to implement a publication harvesting system in support of the UC Open Access Policy, passed by the Academic Senate in July 2013. Symplectic's flagship product, Elements, will form the basis of a research information management system intended to simplify participation in UC's OA Policy by providing an efficient method for faculty to deposit their research into eScholarship, UC's institutional repository.

Nominations for 2014 Chemical Sciences Apprentice of the Year and Chemistry Technician of the Year awards now open

The Royal Society of Chemistry and National Apprenticeship Service have announced that nominations are now open for the Chemical Sciences Apprentice of the Year Awards 2014. The award recognises individuals who are working towards, or have completed, an advanced or higher apprenticeship with a strong basis in chemical sciences. Nominations are also open for the Chemistry Technician of the Year Award 2014, recognising individuals that have been working in technical support roles.

Emerald Group Publishing joins 'Access to Research' initiative

Academic publisher Emerald Group Publishing has joined the 'Access to Research' initiative. Led by The Publishers Licensing Society, the scheme brings together UK publishers and librarians to make over 1.5 million academic articles freely accessible to the British public. The two-year pilot was set up in response to recommendations from the Finch Group.
