The London Book Fair, in partnership with The Publishers Association (PA), and the Korean Publishers Association, has announced the Korea Market Focus Professional Programme for The London Book Fair 2014. The Professional Programme provides an essential insight into the Korean publishing industry for international visitors and exhibitors to The London Book Fair.

Elsevier experts to showcase Reaxys®, other solution at ACS Dallas

Experts from STM publisher Elsevier will showcase Reaxys®, a workflow solution for research chemists, and other electronic solutions at the 247th ACS National Meeting in Dallas, March 16-20, 2014. Presentations by Elsevier experts in special workshops and at-booth talks (booth #1313) during ACS Dallas will explore Elsevier's new STEM journals, open access, scholarly communications, promoting women in science, and Reference Modules in Chemistry, Molecular Sciences and Chemical Engineering.

Library Copyright Alliance comments on EU consultation on copyright rules

The Library Copyright Alliance (LCA) recently submitted a response to the European Union (EU) consultation on the review of copyright rules. The EU website provided a list of 80 questions for stakeholders to answer; the LCA response focuses on those questions most relevant to the library community.

Digital future is going to be bigger than the digital past, says Jisc chief executive

Speaking at the close of the two-day Jisc Digital Festival Jisc's chief executive, Martyn Harrow highlighted the organisation's continued support in enhancing digital capabilities within the education and research communities. The event which took place at the Birmingham ICC, saw over 650 delegates attend with 286 more following the coverage online.

Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters launches second annual Metrics Mania

The Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters has announced the launch of the second annual Metrics Mania, a unique competition designed to measure the research impact of American universities participating in the national college basketball championships. The competition will begin March 17, and close with the naming of the champion on April 8.

Cornell University Libraries face increasing journal costs

Cornell University Library's budget is being 'stretched thin' due to the "dramatically increasing" prices of scientific journals, according to Prof. Nerissa Russell, anthropology, chair of the University Faculty Library Board. According to Russell, there's been tremendous consolidation in the publishers, and things that used to be published on their own by learned societies are now being contracted out to the commercial publishers.
