JournalTOCs / INASP collaboration to benefit libraries in developing world

JournalTOCs and INASP have announced a collaboration which will benefit university and research libraries in developing countries. Access to JournalTOCs Premium will be provided free for eligible INASP partner consortia for 17 months from April 1, 2014, and will enable participating libraries to develop and manage effective scholarly journal current awareness services for their researchers.

Portico and the Royal Society of Chemistry announce preservation deal

Digital preservation specialist Portico has announced that the Royal Society of Chemistry, already an e-journals participant, will begin preserving its e-books with Portico as well. With this initiative, the RSC seeks to ensure that this content will be available into the future.

CCC awards scholarship for academic librarians to attend ALA midwinter conference

Global licensing and content solutions organisation Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), named the four winners of its Conference Scholarship Program for Academic Librarians. Each of the four received a travel stipend of $1,500 to attend the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia.

Pearson, a US-based provider of educational content and services, has released a new study on the changes digital data will bring to future of learning. Pearson's Vice President of Learning Analytics Dr. John Behrens and Senior Research Scientist Dr. Kristen DiCerbo wrote the report, Impacts of the Digital Ocean on Education, detailing how data, social technology and gaming will all be at the forefront of education in the future.

College & Research Libraries 75th anniversary issue voting now open

In preparation for the upcoming celebration of the Association of College and Research Libraries' (ACRL) 75th anniversary, the editorial board of College & Research Libraries (C&RL) is asking the journal's readers to help identify seven 'landmark' articles from C&RL history to be included in a special issue of the journal to be published in March 2015 and discussed at the ACRL 2015 Conference in Portland, Ore. Voting for the crowdsourced issue is now open and will close at the end of April 2014.

ARL calls for applications for the Initiative to Recruit a Diverse Workforce program

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is currently accepting applications for the Initiative to Recruit a Diverse Workforce (IRDW), a program designed to recruit master of library and information science (MLIS) students from traditionally underrepresented ethnic and racial minority groups into careers in research libraries and archives. The IRDW is funded by ARL member libraries.

CERN celebrates 60 years of science for peace

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is celebrating 60 years of science for peace in 2014, with events at the Organization's Geneva laboratory and in its Members States. Festivities will focus on two key events. The first is on July 1 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, where the Organization's 12 founding members established the CERN Convention on 1 July 1953.
