Two of the oldest German journals in Zoology opt for 'platinum' open access

Two of the oldest German journals in Zoology – Deutsche Entomologische Zeitschrift and Zoosystematics and Evolution – will join the journal publishing platform of Pensoft Publishers and adopt "platinum" open access beginning January 1, 2014. For Pensoft, "platinum" open access means not just that the articles and all associated materials are free to download and that there are no author-side fees but even more so that novel approaches are used in the dissemination and reuse of published content.

Proposal submission deadline approaching for Library Assessment Conference 2014

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL), the University of Washington Libraries, and the conference planning committee are accepting proposals through January 17, 2014, for the Library Assessment Conference: Building Effective, Sustainable, Practical Assessment, to be held in Seattle, Washington, August 4–6, 2014. The goal of the biennial Library Assessment Conference is to build and further a vibrant library assessment community by bringing together interested practitioners and researchers who have responsibility or interest in the broad field of library assessment.

Arizona University Library Consortium joins Alexander Street's pilot program for evidence-based acquisition of video resources

The Arizona University Library Consortium has become the first library group in North America to join Alexander Street's pilot program for evidence-based acquisition (EBA) of video resources. The Arizona University Library Consortium comprises the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona State University.

OCLC partners with Novelry to connect readers with libraries

OCLC, the non-profit computer library service and research organisation, has added the newly launched book search engine Novelry to its growing list of WorldCat.org traffic partners in the US. Based in Omaha, NE, Novelry provides a framework to find connections based on what users care about most. For instance, clicking on the 'Book Cover' icon provides information on when the book was written, what it is about, the subject as well as the genre.

American College of Cardiology Research Network uses big data to connect practices with trials

The American College of Cardiology has established the PINNACLE Registry Research Alliance to connect cardiovascular care teams with information about clinical trials and accelerate the systematic access of patients to potentially groundbreaking therapies. Clinical trials are the gold standard for studying the effectiveness of new treatments, but difficulty in identifying eligible patients often limits the ability of researchers to conduct research studies worldwide.

Jo Lendle to succeed Michael Krüger as new publisher at Hanser

German publishing house Carl Hanser Verlag is pleased to announce the appointment of Jo Lendle, who will succeed Michael Krüger as the company's literary publisher. Krüger, who will be stepping down at the end of 2013, will hand over the reins as Managing Director to Lendle.
