Thomson Reuters acquires AVEDAS, expands scholarly-research analytics solution

The Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters has acquired German-based AVEDAS, a company specialising in the development and implementation of current research information systems. AVEDAS will be integrated into the Scientific and Scholarly Research unit of Thomson Reuters.

Elsevier publishes first titles in the new Cell Press Reviews book series

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of the first titles in the new Cell Press Reviews book series, making review content from Cell Press journals more accessible to researchers without institutional access and to others interested in learning more about the topics at a high level. The first book to publish, Cell Press Reviews: Core Concepts in Cell Biology, will be presented at the upcoming American Society for Cell Biology annual meeting in New Orleans, LA, December 14–18, Booth #224.

Wolters Kluwer Health has released the Medi-Span® Federal Government Pricing FileTM, which consolidates NADAC pricing data from CMS, serving as a key resource to payers, pharmacy benefit managers, and retail pharmacies. Medi-Span developed the Federal Government Pricing File that reports NADAC pricing information, allowing Medi-Span customers to easily utilise the new pricing information for their business needs.

World Scientific and Nobel Media sign new memorandum of agreement to publish Nobel Lectures Series (2006–2010)

STM Publisher World Scientific has announced the signing of a new memorandum of agreement with the Nobel Foundation to publish the latest series of Nobel Lectures in all subjects - physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, economic sciences and literature - from 2006 to 2010. World Scientific broke new ground in the early 1990s when it signed a memorandum of agreement with the Nobel Foundation to publish the entire series of Nobel Lectures in all subjects.

Global healthcare stakeholders want standards-based interoperability and communications, says IEEE-SA

Tens of billions of dollars a year reportedly slip through the cracks in interoperability and connectivity among medical devices in the US alone, but it now appears there exists new interest to close those gaps in the global web of healthcare, says the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA). The IEEE-SA reports strong interest among industry and government to put in place the standards-based foundation that would support the medical-device interoperabiity and communications that the global healthcare community seeks.

OCLC library data now supplementing Yelp.com listings to improve public access to library information

OCLC, the non-profit computer library service and research organisation, is working with Yelp, a website and mobile app that connects consumers with great local businesses, to increase public access to local library information. Yelp is integrating information from the database of library listings maintained through the OCLC Library Spotlight program to supplement existing library listings on Yelp.com.
