Chemical Abstracts Service and PerkinElmer collaborate to enhance efficiency of researchers' workflows

Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), the world's authority for chemical information, and PerkinElmer, Inc., a global leader focused on improving the health and safety of people and the environment, have announced a collaboration to combine the power of two leading chemistry solutions - SciFinder and ChemBioDraw. The integrated solution is expected to be available in early 2014.

STM seminars focus on Data and Content Enrichment

The International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers' (STM) hosted two interesting and thought provoking seminars, STM – Innovations and STM – E-Production, in London last week. On December 4, 2013, the STM – Innovations seminar kicked off with an opening Keynote from Gerry Grenier – IEEE and chair of the STM Future Lab Committee. The STM – E-Production seminar was held on December 5th. The day's session focussed around Content Enrichment - When does it happen, what needs to happen and how it gets done.

Transferable peer review to be piloted with nine of Wiley's high impact neuroscience titles

Publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. has announced the trial of an enhanced system of peer review, which will allow for the transfer of reviewer comments between journals. Peer review is an integral part of scientific publishing and the new pilot is being trialled in selected neuroscience journals.

Elsevier launches new OA journal - Operations Research Perspectives

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of an open access journal - Operations Research Perspectives. The journal is aimed at a wide audience, ranging from management scientists, industrial engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians, practitioners and scientists working in the operations research field. Rubén Ruiz García of Universitat Politècnica València, Spain, will serve as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal.

University of Houston selects Ex Libris Discovery solutions

Library automation solutions provider Ex Libris Group has announced that the University of Houston (UH) has selected the Primo discovery and delivery solution and the SFX OpenURL link resolver. After defining the library's long-term requirements and evaluating a number of commercial options, the university library - a member of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) - chose to integrate Primo with its existing systems.

Digital learning company McGraw-Hill Education has designated its Tel Aviv-area technology innovation center as its company-wide interoperability hub. The center will continue to ensure that all of the company's current and future digital learning solutions adhere to the IMS Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) guidelines, the industry standard for edtech interoperability.

Stewart Wills named Editor and Content Director of Optics & Photonics News

Digital bone library offers global resource for chronic disease identification

The Digitised Diseases web resource, created by the University of Bradford and Jisc, launched at the Royal College of Surgeons in London. The online resource contains 3D models of bones affected by over 90 chronic pathological conditions. The bones have been digitised using a combination of 3D laser scanning, CT and radiography, providing a unique opportunity for students and researchers all over the world to examine both the internal and external changes caused by chronic diseases.
