Elsevier to publish NADAC price type from CMS

STM publisher Elsevier has announced that, effective November 30, 2013, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) survey-based price type, National Average Drug Acquisition Cost (NADAC) is included for all available drugs where applicable in Elsevier's Gold Standard Drug Database and web-based solutions, ProspectoRx and RxPrice Verify. The NADAC file is updated on a weekly basis and each month a new survey file is posted to reflect findings from the previous month's survey results.

Digital Science donates SureChem data of more than 15 million chemical compounds and patents to EMBL-EBI

Digital Science, a division of Macmillan Science & Education, is donating the SureChem collection of more than15 million chemical structures from world patents into the public domain through the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). It is the first time a world patent chemistry collection has been made publicly available, marking a significant advance in Open Data for use in drug discovery.

Emerald teams with the Gates Foundation's Global Libraries initiative to promote research

In 2011, academic publisher Emerald Group Publishing set up an informal arrangement with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's Global Libraries initiative, which aims to provide public access to information through computers in public libraries. Global Libraries initiative are now hosting easy to read summaries of the eleven articles published in a special issue of Emerald's journal Performance Measurement and Metrics (Volume 13, Issue 1).

Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. launches new journal - Drug Repurposing, Rescue, and Repositioning

Publisher Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers has announced the launch of Drug Repurposing, Rescue, and Repositioning, a new peer-reviewed journal that will present techniques and tools for finding new uses for approved drugs – particularly for disorders where no animal model, physiologic abnormality, biochemical pathway, or molecular target has been identified. The Journal will be published online with open access options and in print, and is currently under the leadership of Managing Editor Dr. Bill Ferguson.
