Techstreet launches latest version of its enterprise standards management platform, Techstreet Subscriptions

Industry codes and standards provider Techstreet has announced the launch of the latest version of its enterprise standards management platform, Techstreet Subscriptions. Techstreet Subscriptions provides customers with new collaboration capabilities, including note taking and the ability to view exact equivalents, providing greater collaboration for subscribers.

University College London and Elsevier launch UCL Big Data Institute

University College London (UCL) and STM publisher Elsevier will establish the UCL Big Data Institute as part of a new collaboration to explore innovative ways to better serve needs of researchers through the exploration of new technologies and analytics as applied to scholarly content and data. The new Institute will complement Elsevier's recent acquisition of Mendeley and also its recent investment into building a London-based world-class web analytics group.

Nature Publishing Group and the Japan Society of Human Genetics announce 2014 launch of Human Genome Variation journal

Publisher Nature Publishing Group and the Japan Society of Human Genetics (JSHG) has announced the 2014 launch of Human Genome Variation, an online open access journal. The journal, a sister title to the Journal of Human Genetics, will go live on nature.com in 2014, and will begin accepting submissions early next year. A journal information site is now live at nature.com/hgv.

Springer's open access titles to move to new CC-BY 4.0 license

Articles submitted to BioMed Central, Chemistry Central, and SpringerOpen journals from February 03, 2014 onwards will be subject to the new CC-BY 4.0 Creative Commons Attribution license. This also applies to open access articles published in the majority of Springer's subscription-based journals using the Open Choice option. The new license is more digital-friendly, and includes a simplified attribution requirement.

New report analyses usage patterns of academic journal articles

A new report funded by the Professional & Scholarly Publishing (PSP) division of the Association of American Publishers (AAP) analyses the usage pattern of articles published in over 2800 academic and professional journals. It identifies the 'half-life' of journals - the amount of time it takes for articles in a journal to receive half of their lifetime total downloads - and is the first major broad-based report conducted on this topic.

Diane Grob Schmidt elected 2015 president of the American Chemical Society

Dr. Diane Grob Schmidt, a section head in Research and Development at Procter & Gamble will become president of the American Chemical Society (ACS) in January 2015 after serving as president-elect in 2014. Dr. Thomas J. Barton, a distinguished professor emeritus of chemistry at Iowa State University and former director of the U.S. Department of Energy's Ames National Laboratory, will lead the ACS as president in 2014.

BISG to co-locate 2014 Making Information Pay Conference with 2014 IDPF Digital Book Conference at BookExpo America

The Book Industry Study Group (BISG) has announced the co-location of Making Information Pay 2014 with the International Digital Publishing Forum's (IDPF) annual Digital Book conference. The Making Information Pay conference will take place in the afternoon of May 29 as part of the expanded two-day IDPF Digital Book 2014 conference at BookExpo America.
