Open Access Week events focus on increasing impact of research

Hundreds of events will take place across the globe to highlight the power of Open Access to increase the impact of scientific and scholarly research during the sixth annual Open Access Week, October 21 - 27, 2013. Open Access Week, a community-driven, week-long global event, provides an opportunity for all stakeholders in the research community to share the successes they've had with Open Access, and to help continue building momentum towards greater adoption of Open Access policies and practices.

OCLC Research updates ArchiveGrid's index and user interface, over 2 million archival descriptions now available

Library information provider OCLC Research has alerted users to three updates that were recently made to the ArchiveGrid database. Recent changes to the OCLC Research ArchiveGrid collection of archival material descriptions have resulted in a better experience for ArchiveGrid users. The latest ArchiveGrid index update puts the number of archival material descriptions in ArchiveGrid over the two million mark, giving users access to more archival descriptions than ever.

University of California Libraries awarded Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant to continue development of Western Regional Storage Trust

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded the University of California Libraries a three-year grant to continue development of the Western Regional Storage Trust (WEST), a distributed shared print repository program for retrospective journal archives. Under the second phase of the WEST program, participating libraries will continue to consolidate print journal backfiles at major library storage facilities and at selected campus locations.
