SAGE set to publish official journal of the Diabetes Technology Society

Academic publisher SAGE will begin publishing Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology (DST), the official journal of Diabetes Technology Society, starting January 2014. DST is the bi-monthly, peer-reviewed, online-only journal of the Diabetes Technology Society, which is dedicated to the development and use of technology and new products to help people with diabetes.

Thieme continues to expand open access portfolio

Scientific and medical publisher Thieme Medical Publishers, Inc. continues to expand its open access portfolio. Since the summer of 2011, Thieme founded seven new titles. The most recent addition is the journal International Archives of Otorhinolaryngology, which Thieme began publishing as of October 1, 2013. With a series of dedicated newsletters for individual disciplines launched during this year's Open Access Week, Thieme updates readers on the latest open access content.

Montana Higher Education Institutions select Ex Libris' discovery suite for its flexibility and best-in-class consortial support

Library automation solutions provider Ex Libris Group has announced that the University of Montana and the Montana State University System - both multi-campus consortia - have selected the Primo discovery and delivery solution, the SFX OpenURL link resolver, and the bX Recommender. EMBO announces new publishing platform in partnership with HighWire Press

HighWire and EMBO have announced the December launch of EMBO Press, a new publishing platform for The EMBO Journal, EMBO Reports, Molecular Systems Biology and EMBO Molecular Medicine, providing opportunities for the future development of the journals. McGraw-Hill Education and University of Pennsylvania collaborate to invest in education technology startup, Incubator

Digital learning company McGraw-Hill Education has announced an investment in the Education Design Studio, Inc. (EDSi), a $2.1 million hybrid incubator and seed fund that was launched in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE) and designed specifically to nurture, support and increase the success rate of early-stage education startups and related business ventures. As part of its investment, McGraw-Hill Education will offer four to six startups in year one financial capital, consultation and valuable insight into current market demands.

Gale unveils innovative new purchase model for e-books

Gale, part of Cengage Learning and a publisher of research and reference resources for libraries, schools and businesses, has announced an innovative new purchase option - a Usage-Driven Acquisition (UDA) model - for its Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) e-book platform. Unlike options currently offered by other e-book providers, this new purchase model will allow libraries to purchase e-books based on actual usage, allowing libraries to perform evidence-based collection development.

CCC distributes over $188.7 million to rightsholders in FY'13

Licensing and content solutions provider Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC) has announced a record royalty payment of $188.7 million to rightsholders in FY'13, an increase of more than 5 percent over the $179.4 million paid the previous year. During the last ten years, CCC has distributed $1.4 billion to rightsholders.
