Elsevier and University of Birmingham launch first large scale investigation analysing discourse used in interdisciplinary research

STM publisher Elsevier and the University of Birmingham have announced the launch of an Investigation of the Discourse of Interdisciplinary Research (IDRD). Research is increasingly bringing together scientists from different fields and this investigation aims to analyse how this development is reflected in the language used in scholarly articles and how trends in the discourse used can support research policy development.

The London Book Fair takes a scholarly approach with the launch of The Faculty@LBF

The London Book Fair (LBF) is delighted to announce a brand new academic theatre which will feature in its Academic & Scholarly zone in 2014. The theatre, called The Faculty@LBF, will be located on the show floor. The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) is announced as official partner of The Faculty@LBF, which will also be fully supported by LBF strategic partners, The Publishers Association (The PA).

ProQuest appoints John Law to lead Enterprise Product Strategy

Information resources and technologies provider ProQuest has named John Law to the newly created position of Vice President, Enterprise Product Strategy. In this role, Law will lead initiatives that enable coordination among ProQuest's business areas, leveraging the company's breadth of expertise and assets to create product and service innovations. He will be based in ProQuest's Ann Arbor headquarters.

Prof. Martin Hall appointed new chair of Jisc

Professor Martin Hall has been appointed as the new chair of Jisc, succeeding Professor Sir Tim O'Shea after his very successful tenure. The appointment, announced by UUK, GuildHE and AoC following an open and competitive selection process, will see Professor Hall taking up his position in January 2014.

New BioMed Central journal Molecular and Cellular Therapies launches

Open access publisher BioMed Central has announced the launch of a new journal - Molecular and Cellular Therapies. The journal is led by Editors-in-Chief Xiangdong Wang and Bryon Peterson, and the four Section Editors, Ulf Andersson Ørom, Andrew Badley, Marek Malecki and Dan Peer.

IMLS awards grants to OCLC to support national continuing education programs for libraries

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) recently awarded OCLC two 2013 Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program grants aimed at strengthening and sustaining continuing education programs for libraries nationally. A grant award of $289,387 will aid the formation of the 'Coalition for National Learning,' a widely representative group of organizations that holds the potential to support and advance continuing education on a national scale.
