European Commissioners endorse STM's text and data mining initiatives

European Commissioners have recommended the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers' (STM) TDM Roadmap as an official 'pledge' to help improve digital content licensing across Europe. At the final meeting of the Licences for Europe stakeholder dialogue, a broad spectrum of STM publishers presented their declaration of commitment to facilitate text and data mining for non-commercial scientific research in the European Union.

Troy Shinbrot named Editor, Physical Review Applied

The American Physical Society (APS) and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, have jointly announced that Troy Shinbrot, a professor in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Rutgers, has been appointed Editor of Physical Review Applied, the latest APS journal. Launching in 2014, Physical Review Applied will publish the highest quality research across all aspects of experimental and theoretical applications of physics.

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) has announced the launch of a new stage in the evolution of life science communication - a new, free service, called bioRxiv. It is a preprint server that enables research scientists to share the results of their work before peer review and publication in a journal. Posting to the server and reading its contents costs nothing.
