Elsevier launches two new open access journals in its cardiology journals series

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of two new open access journals in its cardiology journals series - International Journal of Cardiology-Heart & Vessels and International Journal of Cardiology-Metabolic & Endocrine. The first open access issues of both journals have been published and are now freely available on ScienceDirect.

Bibliographic citations from over 2,500 biomedical journals and other serial publications published in Japan to be added to EDS

Library resources provider EBSCO Information Services has announced that bibliographic citations and abstracts from Ichushi Web, Japan's largest medical-literature database, will now be searchable for mutual customers via the EBSCO Discovery ServiceTM (EDS). The move is the result of a recent agreement between EBSCO and the Japan Medical Abstracts Society (JAMAS).

Thomson Reuters announces winners of the Thomson Reuters Award for Innovation in Big Data

The Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters has announced the winners of the Thomson Reuters Award for Innovation in Big Data, part of an ongoing collaboration with The Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine of London to drive scientific innovation and research in the life sciences. The award was presented to the students who demonstrated the best technical applications, specifically related to data modeling and integration, visualization, and analytics.

Australia's national science agency selects Ex Libris Alma and Primo

Library automation solutions provider Ex Libris Group has announced that the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) has selected the Alma library management service and the Primo discovery and delivery solution. Alma and Primo replace a number of systems including Ex Libris Voyager and Proquest AquaBrowser.

PeerJ announces free publications through end-2013

PeerJ, an open access publisher of scholarly articles in the biological, life & medical sciences, has announced that authors can now publish their work in PeerJ, entirely for free, through end-2013. PeerJ has allowed free submissions twice in the last year, and each time the response from authors has been strong.

NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol Standing Committee to replace former maintenance agency

The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) has announced the replacement of the maintenance agency for the two-part American National Standard on the NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol (NCIP), ANSI/NISO Z39.83, with a Standing Committee for ongoing maintenance of the standard. NCIP addresses the need for interoperability among disparate circulation, interlibrary loan, consortial borrowing, and self-service applications by standardising the exchange of messages between and among computer-based applications.
