Onsite and virtual registration for NFAIS workshop 'Open Access to Published Research: Current Status and Future Directions' now open

The National Federation of Abstracting and Information Services (NFAIS) will hold a one-day workshop on November 22, 2013. This workshop 'Open Access to Published Research: Current Status and Future Directions' will take a look at the current state of open access to published research and the significant social, financial, technical and legislative forces that are driving it.

ACS Publications expands open access publishing options

Scientific journal publisher ACS Publications has announced a far-reaching expansion of its open access publishing options - including a major new open access journal, more licensing choices for authors and a stimulus program to support authors who select ACS journals when seeking to publish their work open access. The four major components of the Society's expanded portfolio of open access options include ACS Central Science, ACS Editors' Choice, ACS Author Rewards and Expanded ACS AuthorChoice.

Russia's International Biotechnology Center Generium in deal with Elsevier to gain access to ScienceDirect and Embase

STM publisher Elsevier has announced that Russia's International Biotechnology Center (IBC) Generium, has signed an agreement to grant access to ScienceDirect and Embase for its scientists. Access to ScienceDirect and Embase supports the company's strategy to maintain its leading position in Russia in generic drug development and innovate in biotechnological therapies.

National Library of Sweden to index Swedish National Bibliography in Serials Solutions' Summon discovery service

Serials Solutions, a ProQuest business, is working with the National Library of Sweden to index the Swedish National Bibliography in the Summon discovery service. With the inclusion of the Swedish National Bibliographic Database in the Summon index, researchers will now be able to discover references to books and materials published in Sweden alongside their library's other resources.

OUP set to launch new open access journal, Journal of Law and the Biosciences, in 2014

Academic publisher Oxford University Press (OUP) has announced its partnership with Duke University, Harvard Law School, and Stanford University to launch a new open access journal in 2014 - Journal of Law and the Biosciences (JLB). JLB is projected to become the preeminent outlet to publish cutting-edge scholarship wherever law and the biosciences intersect.

Publishing Technology Director for Dartmouth Journal Services, Mary McRae, appointed to NISO's Standing Committee for JATS

The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) has announced that its Standing Committee for Journal Article Tag Suite (JATS) has invited Sheridan's Mary McRae to serve on the committee. McRae, who joined Dartmouth Journal Services as Director of Publishing Technology in 2012, has served on numerous technical committees focused on developing standardised markup vocabularies including DocBook, DITA, and Open Document Format.
