Thomson Reuters new whitepaper reveals new strategies for navigating Big Data in the pharmaceutical industry

The IP & Science business of Thomson Reuters has released Big Data and the Needs of the Pharma Industry, a whitepaper offering new strategies for managing Big Data, most specifically by using an array of technologies to convert it into more meaningful, accessible Little Data. The paper highlights how the inherently data-driven pharmaceutical industry requires deep, broad information to feed drug R&D, but the way it processes Big Data is unique.

Elsevier's ExitCare certified under Drummond Group's Electronic Health Records ONC-ACB program

STM publisher Elsevier has announced that Elsevier's ExitCare has been tested and certified under the Drummond Group's Electronic Health Records Office of the National Coordinator Authorized Certification Body (ONC-ACB) program. This EHR module is compliant in accordance with the criteria adopted by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Royal Society of Chemistry acquires MarinLit

The Royal Society of Chemistry has completed the acquisition of MarinLit, a database of marine natural products literature. In addition to bibliographic data, the database contains an extensive collection of keywords, trivial names, compound information including structures, formulae, molecular mass, numbers of various functional groups, and UV data.

BMJ and Saudi Arabian government sign cooperation agreement to improve healthcare across the region

Medical knowledge provider BMJ has announced a new partnership with the Saudi Arabian government to help improve consistency in healthcare across the region. BMJ CEO, Tim Brooks, joined the Saudi Arabian Minster, Dr Mohammed Zamakhshary, to sign an Executive Agreement for Cooperation in Health Learning and Research between the Saudi government and the BMJ.

Dr. Ingrid Nygaard and Dr. Roberto Romero named Editors-in-Chief of American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology

The American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology (AJOG) has announced the appointment of Dr. Ingrid Nygaard, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Utah and Dr. Roberto Romero, Chief of the Perinatology Research Branch and Program Head for Perinatal Research and Obstetrics of NICHD/NIH, as the new Editors-in-Chief of AJOG. Drs. Nygaard and Romero will replace Drs. Thomas Garite and Moon Kim, effective January 1, 2014.

OCLC and Plum Analytics partner to use WorldCat to measure impact of research

Computer library service OCLC has announced a partnership with Plum Analytics, an altmetrics organisation that develops analytical tools for scholars and researchers, to leverage WorldCat data to help researchers better analyse and measure the impact of their work. Plum Analytics has integrated the WorldCat Search API into its PlumX analytics dashboard to retrieve aggregate library holdings information from the WorldCat database.
