Elsevier launches new OA research publication - Journal of Clinical and Translational Endocrinology

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of a new open access research publication — Journal of Clinical and Translational Endocrinology (JCTE). The scope of this new journal is patient-oriented research in a variety of disciplines in endocrinology, including diabetes, metabolic bone disease and osteoporosis, thyroid disease, pituitary and lipid disorders.

Springer and the Acoustical Society of America announce collaboration to publish books

STM publisher Springer and the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) have announced that they will collaborate to publish new books to bring important research to scientists and practitioners in the area of acoustics, as well as provide members of the ASA with a dedicated venue to publish their work. All types of books, from SpringerBriefs to textbooks and authored monographs, will be part of this new effort.

Harvard Business Review Press and EBSCO sign exclusive agreement

Library resources provider EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) has announced an agreement with the Harvard Business Review Press. The deal will allow EBSCO to create summaries of Harvard Business Review Press' books by the world's leading business thinkers, including John P. Kotter, Clayton Christensen, W. Chan Kim & Renée Mauborgne, Michael Watkins, Linda Hill, Vijay Govindarajan, A.G. Lafley, and Roger Martin.

CMIM members can now earn CME credits using UpToDate

Wolters Kluwer Health has announced that users of its clinical decision support (CDS) system, UpToDate, can now earn Continuing Medical Education (CME) certificates accredited by the Colegio de Medicina Interna de México A.C. (CMIM) when consulting UpToDate to answer clinical questions. CMIM recognises UpToDate as a provider of continuing medical education on the premise that UpToDate's clinical content provides clinicians with important updates and knowledge to help them provide the best care for their patients.

SPIE set to launch Journal of Medical Imaging in early 2014

SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, has announced that it will launch the Journal of Medical Imaging (JMI) in early 2014. The journal will cover fundamental and translational research and applications focused on photonics in medical imaging. Dr. Maryellen Giger, A.N. Pritzker Professor of Radiology/Medical Physics at the University of Chicago, has been appointed editor-in-chief of the journal.

Jisc proposes refinements to funding model

Jisc is writing to UK universities to outline proposed refinements to the organisation's funding model. With the balance of higher education funding moving from grants to subscriptions, Jisc funding needs to evolve similarly. The changes mean that Jisc's existing subscription model for the Janet network will be refined, with the proposed change coming into effect from the start of the academic year 2014-15.

Registration deadline approaching for ARL Fall Forum on Mobilizing the Research Enterprise

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) has announced that September 20, is the last day to register for the ARL Fall Forum 2013, 'Mobilizing the Research Enterprise,' to be held in Arlington, Virginia, October 10–11. The program will explore the opportunities and collaborations in responding to the White House memorandum on 'Increasing Access to the Results of Federally Funded Research.'
