Australasian universities welcome Springer Book Archives

STM publisher Springer has announced that it will offer online access to 100,000 eBooks with historic content through its Springer Book Archives (SBA), available anywhere, at any time, via SpringerLink by the end of 2013. As early adopters, Australasian universities were some of the first to offer access to this wealth of scientific content to students, faculty and researchers.

NPG set to launch Scientific Data to aid scientists publish and reuse research data

Scientific publisher Nature Publishing Group (NPG) has announced the Spring 2014 launch of Scientific Data. Open for submissions this autumn, Scientific Data is a new open-access, online-only platform for the publication of descriptions of scientifically valuable datasets.

SPARC-sponsored report on Strategies for Sustaining Open Access Resources released

Knowledge Exchange has released 'The Collective Provision of Open Access Resources,' the third report in its multiphase 'Sustainability of Open Access Resources' initiative. The report, which was funded by SPARC, examines the practical planning issues relevant to the economic sustainability of infrastructure services that support the growth of the open-access dissemination of scholarly and scientific research.

EBSCO and ALA award seven scholarships for librarians to attend 2013 ALA Annual Meeting

EBSCO, in co-sponsorship with the American Library Association (ALA), has awarded seven librarians $1,000 scholarships to attend the ALA Annual Meeting in Chicago, to be held from June 27- July 2, 2013. As part of the application process, librarians were asked to write an essay on the topic of how attending the conference will contribute to the librarians' professional development.

Northwestern University Libraries select Ex Libris Alma

Library automation solutions provider Ex Libris Group has announced that Northwestern University has selected the Ex Libris Alma next-generation resource management solution for its libraries. A member of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and the Association of American Universities, Northwestern counts among its libraries the Pritzker Legal Research Center and the Galter Health Sciences Library, both at the school's Chicago campus.

OUP journals compliant with RCUK and Wellcome Trust open access policies

Oxford University Press has announced that from April 1, 2013 Oxford journals will be compliant with the Research Councils UK (RCUK) and Wellcome Trust policies on open access (OA). The publisher embraces both 'gold' and 'green' OA publishing to support this mission.
