Thomson Reuters releases 'Research Fronts 2013: 100 Top Ranked Specialties in the Sciences and Social Sciences' report

The IP & Science business of Thomson Reuters has released its report, 'Research Fronts 2013: 100 Top Ranked Specialties in the Sciences and Social Sciences,' identifying 100 important research areas across multiple fields of science. By examining highly cited research papers from 2007 through 2012, Thomson Reuters identified research fronts built on recently published 'core,' or foundational, journal articles.

JISC's metadata application profile for repositories to comply with RCUK's new OA policy

RCUK's revised policy on OA for publicly-funded research to be disseminated through OA routes is coming into force this month. A metadata application profile called RIOXX has been developed by JISC and UKOLN to ensure that university institutional repositories can start to comply with this policy.

EBSCO appoints Paul Harwood as new GM to lead UK and Nordic operations

Library resources provider EBSCO has appointed Paul Harwood to a new role as General Manager of the UK and Nordic operations for EBSCO Information Services. Paul will officially start with EBSCO on May 30, 2013. Well known in the library, publisher, and intermediary communities, Harwood has been active on various committees and professional interest groups, including a long association with UKSG, where he was Chair between 2006-2008.

Mellon Grant awarded to NISO to encode e-resource license templates in ONIX-PL

The Mellon Foundation has awarded the NISO a grant to support the encoding of a collection of template licences for e-resources into the ONIX for Publications Licenses (ONIX-PL) format. The encodings will be deposited into the GOKb and KB+ knowledgebase for free distribution to libraries.
