Elsevier launches new review journal - Global Food Security

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of a new review journal - Global Food Security. The launch of the journal is driven by a global concern that scientists and policy makers have great difficulty keeping up with the expanding volume of information about the challenge of meeting human food and nutritional needs while at the same time protecting environmental services.

SAGE Open author publication fee discounted to $99 per article

Academic publisher SAGE has announced that the price of publication in SAGE Open has been discounted to $99 per article. With this move, the publisher aims to make high quality, peer reviewed open access publishing a more accessible option for researchers in the humanities and social sciences, where often little or no direct research funding is available.

AIP and IOP Publishing create new thesaurus for astronomy community

The American Institute of Physics and IOP Publishing, a non-profit scientific publisher, have jointly announced the creation of a new astronomy thesaurus called the Unified Astronomy Thesaurus (UAT) for the American Astronomical Society (AAS). The UAT is expected to help improve future information discovery for researchers.

BMJ Learning and BMJ Quality launch new learning tools for 2013

Medical publisher the BMJ Group has announced that BMJ Learning and BMJ Quality are launching new tools to add to the support and learning it already offers to doctors and other healthcare professionals worldwide. Informa to publish Chinese Medical Record: English Edition

Medical and scientific publisher Informa Healthcare has announced a new partnership with the Chinese Medical Record Association (part of the Chinese Hospital Association under the authority of the Ministry of Health) for the publication of Chinese Medical Record: English Edition. The Max Planck Society and De Gruyter in deal to publish open access books

Research organisation Max Planck Society (Max-Planck-Gesellschaft) and academic publishing house De Gruyter have signed an agreement to cooperate in the publication of Open Access books. The agreement covers texts intended for publication by scholars at the more than 80 individual Max Planck institutes working worldwide.

Pensoft Publishers integrate journal platform with OpenAIRE

Academic publisher Pensoft Publishers has announced the integration of its editorial management platform (Pensoft Journal System) with its OpenAIRE harvesting mechanism. Michael Panzer named Editor-in-Chief of Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system

Library information provider OCLC has named Michael Panzer, formerly Assistant Editor, as the 10th Editor-in-Chief of the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system. Panzer is the first DDC Editor-in-Chief from outside the US. He replaces Joan S. Mitchell, who has retired after serving with distinction in the position since 1993.
