JISC welcomes launch of ORCID as tool to identify researchers

The JISC has joined organisations from across the UK higher education network to welcome the launch of the Open Researcher and Contributor Identifier (ORCID). The adoption of ORCID is stated to be a solution to the current challenges of being able to search for work accurately.

Elsevier acquires Aureus Sciences

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the acquisition of Aureus Sciences, a Paris, France, based privately held company that provides databases and information tools to pharmaceutical and biotech companies. The acquisition is effective immediately and financial terms of the transaction are not being disclosed.

EBSCO Publishing acquires PEMSoft, expands evidence-based Pediatric content

Electronic research databases provider EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) has expanded its evidence-based healthcare content with the acquisition of PEMSoft, a premiere pediatric point-of-care clinical information resource. PEMSoft is an online clinical library and multimedia decision support system that addresses acute and chronic illness and injury conditions in children from newborn to young adult.

Knovel expands Yaws' Critical Property Data for Chemical Engineers and Chemists

Knovel, the US-based provider of a web-based application integrating technical information with analytical and search tools, has announced an expansion to Yaws' Critical Property Data for Chemical Engineers and Chemists which it launched in July 2012. The expanded database now includes data on superheated, saturated and subcooled fluids, mixtures, refrigerants and various materials used in chemical plant construction and equipment design - information previously unavailable in a single reference database.

Brill acquires English-language Entomology publications programme from Apollo Books

Scholarly publisher Brill has finalised an agreement with Apollo Books (Denmark) to acquire the English-language Entomology publications programme as well as a small number of other Biology titles. Effective immediately, Brill will assume publishing responsibilities for the acquired titles.

Dr. Jeffrey Burr named Editor-in-Chief of Research on Aging

Academic publisher SAGE has announced that Dr. Jeff Burr has been appointed as the new Editor-in-Chief of Research on Aging (ROA), an international journal from SAGE that publishes research on the critical issues that face today's elderly population. Dr. Burr will be replacing Dr. Debra Parker Oliver, who was editor-in-chief of ROA from 2010.
