O'Reilly's Tools of Change announces speakers for TOC 2013 conference

O'Reilly's Tools of Change for Publishing has announced that leaders in digital publishing will gather at the TOC 2013 conference in New York City on February 12-14. Chairs Kat Meyer and Joe Wikert have added more speakers to the cast of TOC 2013.

RCUK unveils statement to promote equality and diversity in research

RCUK has unveiled its new Statement of Expectations for Equality and Diversity, intended to drive rapid cultural change in the management of equality and diversity in institutions receiving Council funding. It seeks to assess whether the equality and diversity policies are working in practice.

OCLC in deal with more publishers worldwide to add e-book metadata to WorldCat

Library information provider OCLC has signed new agreements with leading publishers around the world to add more e-book metadata to WorldCat, a comprehensive online database of resources available through libraries worldwide. This new WorldCat metadata will be integrated into library management workflows using OCLC's cataloguing services and discoverable by users through a variety of library discovery services, including WorldCat Local and WorldCat.org.

French group offers comments on EC recommendations on OA publication

The EC had issued a recommendation encouraging the Member States to make necessary arrangements to disseminate publicly funded research through OA publication, as soon as possible. French group GFII has informed the government on the preliminary findings of its Working Group on Open Access.

ARL to host Library Assessment Forum at ALA Midwinter Meeting

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) will host a Library Assessment Forum at the upcoming ALA Midwinter Meeting, featuring LibValue research conducted at the University of Tennessee. Language service provider CLS Communication has acquired 4-Text Software-Lokalisierung und technische Übersetzungen GmbH, a Berlin-based quality provider of technical documentation. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The former owners of the company will support the integration phase for an agreed period.
