Elsevier and PerkinElmer announce strategic collaboration to enable faster, more intuitive chemistry research

Elsevier, the information analytics business specialising in science and health, has announced a strategic collaboration with PerkinElmer. The first phase of this collaboration will see the integration of Elsevier's flagship chemistry database, Reaxys, with PerkinElmer's ChemDraw® software. The ChemDraw® JS software will be available directly through Reaxys, allowing academic and industry users to access the structure editor from within Reaxys to create publication-ready drawings, and simplifying access to a range of commonly used features.

Wolters Kluwer Health to publish the Porto Biomedical Journal

Wolters Kluwer Health has been named publisher of the Porto Biomedical Journal (PBJ) and will begin publishing the title under its Lippincott portfolio with Volume 3, Issue 1. The bimonthly open access journal publishes research conducted in the biomedical fields. The journal accepts original works and reviews in all biomedical areas, case reports, rostrum articles and images.

European Commission releases recommendation on access to and preservation of scientific information

The European Commission has released a new set of recommendations to the Member States that offer guidance and propose the best way to implement and support open science practices. The new recommendations include sections on incentives, rewards and require action plans from member states with concrete and measurable objectives.

EBSCO Information Services announces winners for second round of the EBSCO FOLIO Innovation Challenge

EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) is providing grants to four academic libraries as part of the EBSCO FOLIO Innovation Challenge. The grant program is awarding up to $100,000 in grants to libraries to develop innovative technology solutions that address the challenges academic libraries face. The second round's winning proposals came from the University of Alabama, the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, the Johns Hopkins University and Lehigh University.

Dr. Charles E. Kahn Jr. named Editor of Radiology: Artificial Intelligence

The Board of Directors of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) has announced that Dr. Charles E. Kahn Jr. will become editor of the new online journal, Radiology: Artificial Intelligence. The journal will launch in early 2019. Dr. Kahn is professor and vice chair of the Department of Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania's (Penn) Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He is also a senior fellow of the Institute for Biomedical Informatics and the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at Penn.

Anti Double Dipping Alliance for transparency in Open Access book publishing formed

Fifteen of the most important vendors and platform providers in the scholarly publishing market have formed an Anti-Double Dipping Alliance. The group initiated by Knowledge Unlatched (KU), the central platform for sustainable Open Access (OA) funding models, aims at avoiding unwanted acquisition of book titles through different systems.
