International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers to host Annual U.S. Spring Conference 2014

The International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers (STM) has announced that its Annual US Spring conference will be held from April 29 –May 1, 2014, at Washington Marriot, Washington DC, USA. This year's conference is titled 'Stewardship of Knowledge: Building a Framework for the Future of Scholarly Publishing'.

Kazakhstani research community to benefit from access to Scopus and continued access to ScienceDirect

STM publisher Elsevier has signed a license agreement with the National Center for Scientific and Technical Information (NCSTI) to make key Elsevier resources available to the entire Kazakhstani research community. The agreement, signed on behalf of the Ministry of Science and Education, provides more than 400 Kazakhstani academic and research institutions with access to Scopus and ensures continued access to ScienceDirect.

Springer and Integrated Research System for Sustainability Science of the University of Tokyo launch new book series, Science for Sustainable Societies

STM publisher Springer and the Integrated Research System for Sustainability Science of the University of Tokyo (IR3S) have launched a new English-language book series called Science for Sustainable Societies. The series will provide timely research reports that have been carried out in accordance with the principles of sustainability science, incorporating the fields of natural and social sciences and engineering.

NLM and Wellcome Library in deal to make 150 years of Biomedical journals freely available online

Representatives of the US National Library of Medicine (NLM), a component of the National Institutes of Health, and the Wellcome Trust recently signed a memorandum of understanding to work together to make thousands of complete back issues of historically-significant biomedical journals freely available online. NLM will undertake conservation of the original material to ensure its preservation for future generations.

Atypon Systems acquires Metapress from EBSCO Online, Inc.

Atypon Systems, Inc. and EBSCO Online, Inc. have announced that Atypon has acquired the Metapress business from EBSCO Online, Inc., which has made the decision to discontinue the Metapress platform. Atypon and EBSCO will work together to transition Metapress clients to Atypon's Literatum platform. Under the terms of the agreement, Metapress will continue to service its current clients through the transition.

Cengage Learning moves corporate headquarters to Boston

Educational content, software and services company Cengage Learning has named its Boston, MA office as the new corporate headquarters for its global business. In an unprecedented move, the company is establishing its central operations in the Channel Center, located in Boston's Innovation District. More than 500 positions will be permanently located in the Boston headquarters while Cengage Learning continues to maintain operations in over 20 countries worldwide and many locations in the US.
