London Book Fair Day 2: Blackwell launches new digital platform for students, Blackwell Learning

It was another packed day at Earls Court on day two of the London Book Fair with the addition of a Royal visit – Duchess of Cornwall visited meeting agents, authors and publishers. Blackwell launched "Blackwell Learning," a new digital platform for students. MetaPress announced that they are closing down in 18 months time and is asking all publisher clients to make other arrangements.

figshare and IOP Publishing announce collaborative pilot to help authors share their work

IOP Publishing (IOP), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institute of Physics, and figshare have announced a collaborative pilot to test new ways to help authors share figures and data from IOP's journals more easily. The aim of the pilot is to assist authors further increase the visibility of their research and to help IOP explore solutions to questions surrounding open data using existing cloud-based technology.

NISO publishes revised recommendations for Knowledge Bases and Related Tools

The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) has announced the publication of a revision to the Knowledge Bases and Related Tools (KBART) Recommended Practice (NISO RP-9-2014). The original recommended practice, issued in 2010, provided all parties in the information supply chain with straightforward guidance about metadata formatting - focused mainly on journal resources - to ensure the exchange of accurate metadata between content providers and knowledge base developers.

The print version was previously published by J.B. Metzler Verlag, Stuttgart, Germany.
