Authors Guild appeals to US court to reinstate case against Google and its book digitisation project

The Authors Guild asked a federal appeals court on April 11th to reinstate its lawsuit contending that the Internet giant is violating copyright laws with its massive book digitisation project. The Guild filed papers with the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan, saying that Google's effort to create the world's largest digital library was violating the rights of authors and stifling competition in the busy Internet book sales market.

ORCID user interface now available in Korean

ORCID, a non-profit organisation that provides an open registry of unique identifiers for researchers, has announced that in 2014 it will be expanding the number of languages supported. ORCID user interface will now be available in Korean also. The translation of the ORCID user interface was made possible through the dedicated volunteer efforts of Senator Jeong, an ORCID Ambassador.

ProQuest and J.P. Morgan partner to widen access to analyst reports

ProQuest, an information firm central to global research, and J.P. Morgan, a global financial services firm, have joined forces to help business students and faculty make use of J.P. Morgan's company and economic research. The companies have created J.P. Morgan Research, which contains intelligence and insight on more than 3,000 corporations worldwide and all major economies.

'Research Without Borders' panel to discuss open access in the Americas

"Research Without Borders: Open Access in the Americas", the final event of the academic year in the Research Without Borders panel discussion series will take place from 3pm -5pm on April 29, 2014 in Presidential Rooms 2 & 3 of Columbia's Faculty House. The current landscape of open access policy development in the USA, Canada, and Latin America will be compared and contrasted in this panel event. It is free and open to the public.
