Nature Publishing Group expands Nature family of research journals with the launch of Nature Plants

Scientific publisher Nature Publishing Group (NPG) has introduced the newest member of the Nature family of research journals: Nature Plants. Launching in January 2015, Nature Plants will be the first journal in the field to focus on excellence in research across the plant sciences, building upon the cross-disciplinary model established by Nature Climate Change. The journal is now accepting submissions, with more information available at: http://www.nature.com/nplants/.

SAGE membership of OASPA reinstated following six-month review

Academic publisher SAGE has welcomed the announcement by the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA) that its membership of OASPA has been reinstated in full, following a six month review period. In October 2013, OASPA's Membership Committee placed SAGE's membership under review as a result of concerns that were raised regarding the peer review policies of one of its journals – the Journal of International Medical Research (JIMR).

Elsevier and American Urological Association collaborate to launch new journal - Urology Practice

STM publisher Elsevier and the American Urological Association (AUA) have announced their collaboration to launch a new journal, Urology Practice. Urology Practice will focus on clinical trends, challenges and practice applications in the four areas of Business, Health Policy, the Specialty and Patient Care. AUA is a premier urological association providing invaluable support to the urology community.

New agreement between Max Planck Society and SPIE paves way for open access publication in SPIE Digital Library

The Max Planck Society has announced a new agreement with SPIE the international society for optics and photonics. Research articles by authors at the Max Planck Society institutes that are published in SPIE journals will be open access. The Max Planck Society will pay open access fees for articles submitted by researchers at its institutes to any of the ten SPIE journals.

Rivisteweb journals now searchable via EBSCO Discovery Service

Library resources provider EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) has announced that top humanities and social sciences journals via Rivisteweb are now searchable via EBSCO Discovery ServiceTM (EDS). Il Mulino, an academic publisher in Italy, offers the prominent journals for both Carocci Editore and Il Mulino via its online portal Rivisteweb. EBSCO Discovery Service users are now able to search the Rivisteweb metadata including 45,000 articles from over 80 journals.

Ex Libris Group launches Ex Libris Developer Network

Library automation solutions provider Ex Libris Group has announced the global launch of the Ex Libris Developer Network - an open environment in which developers and IT professionals can collaborate across libraries and with Ex Libris to experiment with applications and extensions to the company's solutions. The new network welcomes community members from both Ex Libris customer and non-customer institutions.

Elsevier announces publication of six new books in Biomedical and Life Sciences

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of six new books that serve the needs of researchers and academics with an emphasis on the translational level, including the new book Cellular and Molecular Pathobiology of Cardiovascular Disease edited by Monte Willis, Jonathon Homeister and James Stone. Topics covered in the six books are, among others, pathology, nutrition, molecular biology, drug discovery and cardiovascular research.

HIMSS offers guidance to HHS on Certified EHR Technology

In official comments submitted to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, HIMSS provided recommendations in response to ONC's Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for the Voluntary 2015 Edition Electronic Health Record (EHR) Certification Criteria; Interoperability Updates and Regulatory Improvements. HIMSS recognises this proposed rule as an opportunity to explore potential program improvement areas and potential scope minimisation, and provide multi-stakeholder feedback to ONC.

OCLC releases WorldCat Works as linked data

OCLC, the non-profit computer library service and research organisation, has made 197 million bibliographic work descriptions - WorldCat Works - available as linked data, a format native to the Web that will improve discovery of library collections through a variety of popular sites and Web services. Release of this data marks another step toward providing interconnected linked data views of WorldCat.
