NIH's National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences and Elsevier in deal for use of NCATS' rare disease database

Elsevier, a global information analytics business specialising in science and health, and the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), have agreed to allow Elsevier to access NCATS' rare disease database. The Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Center (GARD), a program of NCATS, developed the database to provide patients, their families and friends, healthcare providers, and the public with current information on rare and/or genetic conditions and support sources.

ConTech 2019 and EBSCO Information Services partner to connect librarians and library students with new technologies

ConTech 2019 and EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) have announced a partnership to ensure more librarians attend the event in December. EBSCO will sponsor the conference — a sponsorship that will include a submission process that will allow four librarians to attend for free as well as a 50 percent discount for all librarian attendees, along with two opportunities for library student bursaries.

Taylor & Francis partners with the Federation of European Materials Societies to launch a new OA journal - European Journal of Materials

Academic publisher Taylor & Francis and the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS) have announced the launch of a new open-access journal, European Journal of Materials (EJM). EJM will publish high-quality research across the entire discipline of materials science. The journal was officially launched at EUROMAT 2019 in Stockholm, Sweden on September 4, 2019.

Guthrie selects POC Advisor from Wolters Kluwer for faster Sepsis detection using AI technology

Wolters Kluwer, Health has announced that Guthrie, a not-for-profit, integrated health care system in Pennsylvania and New York, has selected POC AdvisorTM to aid in rapid, accurate detection and treatment of sepsis at its four area hospitals. Beginning with Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, a Regional Level II Trauma Center, POC Advisor will equip the 254-bed tertiary care hospital in northern Pennsylvania with expert solutions to accelerate sepsis care using evidence-based alerts for clinicians at the point of care.

DOAJ and the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies collaborate on new pilot to encourage Finnish open access journals to apply to DOAJ

The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (TSV) are collaborating on a pilot project to encourage and help peer-reviewed open access (OA) journals published in Finland to be indexed in DOAJ. The Pilot runs from May 2019 to May 2020. DOAJ has set an international standard for peer-reviewed OA journals. The index currently includes 13500 journals from over 131 countries publishing in 75 languages, showing the regional and linguistic diversity of research.

Digital Science and the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics partner to provide ISSI members with free access to Dimensions and Altmetric data

Scholarly technology provider Digital Science has announced a collaboration with the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics (ISSI) that will give ISSI members enhanced access to Dimensions and Altmetric data for scientometric research. ISSI is an international association of scholars and professionals active in the interdisciplinary study science of science, science communication, and science policy. Starting October 1 2019, ISSI members will formally be invited to apply for no-cost access to Altmetric and Dimensions web tools and APIs.
