Springer Nature and the Austrian Academic Library Consortium renew open access contract for Springer journals

Springer Nature and the Austrian Academic Library Consortium (Kooperation E-Medien Österreich KEMÖ) have renewed their existing open access contract for Springer journals. The transformative agreement enables researchers and students in Austria to publish peer-reviewed research articles open access in more than 1,900 Springer journals without additional fees. Consortium members also gain access to more than 2,000 Springer, Palgrave Macmillan and Adis subscription journals.

FIZ Karlsruhe to organise first Patent Text Mining & Semantic Technologies workshop

The first workshop on Patent Text Mining and Semantic Technologies (PatentSemTech) will be held at FIZ Karlsruhe within the scope of the SEMANTiCS 2019 conference. The one-day workshop, scheduled for September 12, 2019, is organised jointly with Technische Universität Vienna. The event deals with the development of new concepts and methods of text and data mining (TDM).

Publishing industry expert Byron Russell to lead EMEA customer sales at HighWire

Scholarly publishing technology provider, HighWire, has announced the appointment of publishing veteran Byron Russell as EMEA Sales Director. Bringing over 30 years' experience in the publishing industry, Byron started his career at Oxford University Press' ELT division in Italy. He has held senior positions in sales and marketing with Pearson, Berlitz and Macmillan Learning, focusing on future-facing digital content delivery systems.

ScholarSphere: Measuring the impact of OA publishing

Users of ScholarSphere, Penn State's institutional repository service, will receive monthly reports detailing the impact of the research products they have contributed, including preprints, posters, data sets, research software and other open-access scholarly products, effective September 1. Users will be provided updated statistics on the number of new downloads of their works and a link to other statistics available through the ScholarSphere dashboard.

Washington State University Press appoints Linda Bathgate as new Editor-in-Chief

Washington State University (WSU) Press has announced the appointment of Linda Bathgate as Editor-in-Chief, starting September 3. Replacing Robert A. Clark, who retired in January 2019, Bathgate comes to WSU Press after working for the University Press of Florida (UPF) in Gainesville, Florida, where she was Deputy Director and Editor-in-Chief. She has extensive editorial experience, including book and journal acquisitions, development, writing, technical editing, and project coordination.

Brill collaborates with Knowledge Unlatched to release 11 books in Open Access

International scholarly publisher Brill has announced the release of 11 books in Open Access in its most recent collaboration with library crowdsourcing platform Knowledge Unlatched. With topics including interdisciplinary research on trust, a comparative study of women and gender, and a comprehensive overview of the historical relationship between money, society, and the economy, Brill will make available relevant contributions from the Humanities and Social Sciences to urgent social discussions.
