GeoScienceWorld acquires Lithosphere from The Geological Society of America

GeoScienceWorld (GSW), a non-profit collaborative and comprehensive resource for research and communications in the Earth Sciences, has announced the acquisition of the journal Lithosphere, formerly published by The Geological Society of America (GSA), a GSW partner society. Lithosphere will provide a unique publishing choice for authors in the geoscience community, achieved through an alliance between GSW and leading non-profit societies.

BMJ launches new OA journal on complex healthcare interventions

Healthcare knowledge provider BMJ has added a new title to its expanding portfolio of more than 70 specialist journals, with the launch of BMJ Surgery Interventions & Health Technologies (BMJ SIT). An open access journal, BMJ SIT is dedicated to the latest advances in the development and use of surgical therapeutic devices and interventional procedures.

CCC partners with Frankfurt Book Fair 2019 to highlight ideas that move the world

Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC) has again partnered with The Frankfurt Book Fair to help put a spotlight on the EU Digital Single Market Copyright Directive, transformative agreements for Open Access publishing, and better data leading to better publishing. CCC will be exhibiting in Hall 4.2 Stand E22. As part of the partnership with Frankfurt, CCC will participate in talks throughout the week, including: The EU Digital Single Market Copyright Directive: Licensing in the Digital Age, scheduled for October 16, from 11:30-12:00 at Hall 4.2 N101.

Middlesex University opts for Solutionpath and Ex Libris campusM to deliver classroom attendance and engagement solution

Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, and Solutionpath Ltd has announced that Middlesex University has chosen the Solutionpath StREAM learning analytics platform and Ex Libris campusM mobile app to provide learning analytics and attendance solutions that are the first of their kind in the market. With the combined Solutionpath-Ex Libris offering—going live with a phased approach starting September 2019—Middlesex will benefit from a comprehensive system in which the Solutionpath advanced StREAM insights will draw attendance data from the student-facing app supplied by the Ex Libris campusM platform and participation and engagement data from other university systems.

Satoshi Kawata to serve as The Optical Society president in 2022; two directors-at-large elected to OSA Board of Directors

The Optical Society (OSA) has announced that its members have elected Dr. Satoshi Kawata, professor emeritus of Osaka University and honorary scientist at RIKEN, both in Japan, as the society's 2020 Vice President. Two directors-at-large were also chosen during this year's election: Dr. Polina Bayvel, University of London, U.K., and Dr. Gerd Leuchs, Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, Germany. The announcement was made during OSA's Annual Business Meeting at the 2019 Frontiers in Optics + Laser Science (FiO + LS) conference held September 15-19 in Washington, D.C., U.S.A.

Jisc appoints Karen Foster to lead new data analytics directorate as executive director

Jisc has announced a new appointment to its leadership team - Karen Foster. Karen will lead a new data analytics directorate as executive director, effective September 17. Karen joins Jisc from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), with 22 members of her team. Jisc and HESA have a long-standing and successful relationship and the new directorate will build on existing services such as Heidi Plus and Community Dashboards to deliver business intelligence for HE providers, the public sector and charities.
