Elsevier and the Polish consortium announce national license agreement to boost access to high quality research

The Polish consortium for higher education and Elsevier, the information analytics business, have agreed on a national license agreement for access to critical academic research, while advancing Poland's open access objectives. The new three-year national license is based on a thorough analysis of the Polish requirements for access to research, the country's publishing choices and its focus on research quality.

Clarivate Analytics in deal with Melbourne Biomedical Precinct to provide comprehensive drug discovery intelligence

Clarivate Analytics plc, a global leader in providing trusted insights and analytics to accelerate the pace of innovation, has signed an agreement to provide drug discovery intelligence across the Melbourne Biomedical Precinct (MBP). Under the agreement, The University of Melbourne, Monash University, BioCurate and The Walter Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research will have enterprise-wide access to Cortellis drug discovery intelligence to support their strategic research practices from early science through drug discovery.

Springer Nature issues comments on revised Plan S guidance

Springer Nature has welcomed the inclusion by cOAlition S of some of their most recent feedback in its revised guidance. The global publisher is satisfied to see public recognition of the role that transformative deals play in speeding up the transition to Open Access. According to Springer Nature, committing to a review, at the end of 2024, of all aspects of the effects of Plan S's principles is a good and natural action given the scale of changes and remaining uncertainties.

American Chemical Society and American Society for Mass Spectrometry announce publishing partnership

The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS Publications) and the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) have announced a new partnership arrangement to publish the Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (JASMS), a long-established and leading publication in the field of measurement science. Under the deal, JASMS authors and readers will benefit from ACS Publications' state-of-the-art digital publishing capabilities.

University of Vienna becomes first European academic institution to join AIP Publishing's 'Read and Publish' pilot program

AIP Publishing, a not-for-profit scholarly publisher in the physical sciences, has announced that the University of Vienna has signed an agreement to participate in AIP Publishing's 'Read and Publish' pilot program. The University of Vienna is the first European academic institution to join the pilot, which is being conducted during the 2019 publication year.

NISO launches new project to develop best practices for ensuring findability of video and audio outputs from scholars

The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) Voting Members have approved a new project, Assess Video and Audio Metadata and Standards for Academic Research and Professional Information, to determine best practices and recommendations for metadata associated with scholarly output and instructional materials in video and audio formats. NISO is now forming a working group. The success of the Working Group's effort requires collaboration between those possessing an in-depth knowledge of the various metadata models as well as those with expertise in streaming technologies.

CABI's publishing business looks to strengthen partnerships with China

CABI's publishing business is strengthening partnerships in China by showcasing the benefits of its range of print and online products and services to Chinese clients and partners, and exploring opportunities of further collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) in Beijing. Dr Andy Robinson, CABI's Managing Director, Publishing, led a delegation from CABI who outlined the organisation's new publishing strategies and development plans to members of the Agricultural Information Institute (AII) and Institute of Plant Protection (IPP) of CAAS as well as library staff from the China Agricultural University and China Farmer University.
