Over 600 individuals and organisations provided feedback to cOAlition S on the implementation guidance of Plan S. Originating from over 40 countries, respondents providing feedback include researchers, librarians and libraries, publishers and editors, universities, learned societies, research funders and performers, and other interested citizens and organisations.

Threats to copyright protections seen as 'Existential', reports Simba Information

Copyright protection and the many ways it is perceived to be under threat were a recurring theme to proceedings at the Association of American Publishers annual Professional and Scholarly Publishing conference on February 7, reports market research firm Simba Information. Jule Sigall, associate general counsel, IP policy and strategy, Microsoft Corp., advocated for copyright laws that will allow the use of copyrighted material as data in a machine learning or artificial intelligence environment.

Consortium of Chinese partners select IOP Publishing to publish their new journal - the International Journal of Extreme Manufacturing

IOP Publishing has been chosen by a consortium of Chinese partners to publish their new journal, the International Journal of Extreme Manufacturing (IJEM). The new, open access journal will cover the science and technology of manufacturing functional devices and systems with extreme dimensions (extremely large or small) and/or functionalities under extreme conditions or environments.

TIB promotes OA transition in the field of electrochemistry

Since 2018, all the members of the German consortium of The Electrochemical Society (ECS) led by the Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) - German National Library of Science and Technology have benefited from a special publishing option: ECS grants all institutions participating in its program an unlimited number of article processing charge (APC) credits. This allows all scientists affiliated with participating institutions to publish open access articles in ECS journals free of charge. According to Irina Sens, Deputy Director of the library, the TIB will not only continue the consortium in 2019, but will also support it financially again.

NLM and Wellcome complete partnership to provide free access to historically-significant biomedical journals

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) and Wellcome have completed their partnership to make thousands of full back issues of historically-significant biomedical journals freely available through the National Institutes of Health life sciences repository PubMed Central (PMC), and through its European counterpart, Europe PMC. The NLM and Wellcome reported that over two dozen additional titles are now freely available, spanning three centuries and encompassing hundreds of thousands of pages. In total, the collaboration has grown PMC by over 650,000 pages and tens of thousands of individual articles.
