Chemical Abstracts Service registers 100 millionth chemical substance in CAS REGISTRY

Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), the world's authority for chemical information, has registered the 100 millionth chemical substance in the CAS REGISTRY, in the 50th anniversary year of the world's largest database of unique chemical substances. With a steady increase in patenting activity around the globe, it is not surprising the 100 millionth small molecule registration comes from a patent. In this case, the substance was reported in a World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) patent (WO 2015081280) from Coferon, Inc.

Elsevier announces 2014 Citation Impact highlights

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the highlights of its journal Impact Factor performance in 2014. According to the 2014 Journal Citation Reports® (JCR) published by Thomson Reuters, Elsevier saw 55 percent of its journal Impact Factors increase from 2013 to 2014, ahead of the aggregate across other journals. In 2014, Elsevier journals occupied the top rank in 62 subject categories, up from 61 in 2013.
