Thomson Reuters releases 40th annual Journal Citation Reports, breaks new ground in journal evaluation

The Intellectual Property (IP) & Science business of Thomson Reuters is changing the face of scholarly journal evaluation with the release of the 2015 Journal Citation Reports® (JCR) that includes the integration of a new metric, the Journal Impact Factor Percentile; a Normalized Eigenfactor®; detailed analysis of underlying journal level data; an Open Access (OA) Filter; and a variety of user updates that allow for increased transparency and easier access to a greater amount of data. The JCR claims to be the world's most influential resource for evaluating peer-reviewed publications and the source of the annual Journal Impact Factors (JIF).

Nature Publishing Group unveils new open access journal - Cell Death Discovery

Scientific publisher Nature Publishing Group together with the Cell Death and Differentiation Association (ADMC) and the editorial team of Cell Death & Differentiation, and Cell Death & Disease recently launched a new open access journal, Cell Death Discovery. The journal provides a complementary and unified forum for scientists as well as clinicians within which to publish their work, in conjunction with its sister journals, Cell Death & Differentiation and Cell Death & Disease.

EDP Sciences issues findings from working group on peer review

EDP Sciences, a not-for-profit publisher, recently released information on the findings and recommendations of a working group into the peer review process. The meeting involved a committee of experts linked to the European Physical Journal (EPJ) including Editors-in-Chief, Associate-Editors, members of the Steering Committee and researchers involved in Scientific and Technical Information. EPJ itself, represents 25 European Physical Societies through its Scientific Advisory Committee.

Royal Society of Chemistry titles post impressive Impact Factors

The Royal Society of Chemistry has announced that its journals portfolio has performed well across the board with Chemical Science, Chemical Society Reviews and Energy and Environmental Science seeing substantial rises in their Impact Factors. The 2014 JCR indicates the quality of content, and citation impact, across the RSC's titles.

PLOS appoints Veronique Kiermer as Executive Editor for PLOS journals

PLOS has announced that Dr. Veronique Kiermer has been appointed as Executive Editor. Kiermer will be responsible for the editorial and content direction and vision for PLOS' journals. Her appointment is effective July 20, 2015. Kiermer will be based at PLOS' San Francisco office.

MLA International Bibliography now connects to ORCID

The Open Research and Contributor ID (ORCID) has announced that the Modern Language Association's prestigious MLA International Bibliography connects to ORCID as of June 17. The Bibliography joins other repositories in supporting discoverability through use of digital identifiers, and is the first primarily focused on the humanities to integrate ORCID.
