COAPI welcomes wave of institutional OA policies

As evidence of the continued importance of open access in contemporary research culture, several prominent colleges and universities have recently adopted open access policies or resolutions, maximising the reach and impact of their faculty's scholarship. Representing both faculty-wide and college/department-level approaches to policy adoption, these latest institutions join the ranks of an ever-expanding group of research organisations that have made public declarations about the value and necessity of providing free and unfettered access to scholarly research publications.

Elsevier introduces six chemical engineering books at North American Catalysis Society Meeting

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of six new chemical engineering books, including Direct Microbial Conversion of Biomass to Advanced Biofuels edited by Michael Himmel. The six new chemical engineering titles are among the books featured in the Elsevier booth # 310 at NAM24, the 24th North American Meeting (NAM) of the North American Catalysis Society, June 14-19, in Pittsburgh, Penn.

BioMed Central to publish Genes and Environment

Open access publisher BioMed Central has announced a partnership with the Japanese Environmental Mutagen Society in publishing the open access journal Genes and Environment. Takashi Yagi from Osaka Prefecture University, Japan, will serve as the Editor-in-Chief.

Jasper Simons to succeed Dr. Gary VandenBos as American Psychological Association publisher

Jasper Simons, a senior executive with wide experience in the publishing industry who currently oversees the association's PsycINFO® family of databases, will be the next APA publisher. The announcement was made by APA CEO Norman Anderson. Simons will succeed Dr. Gary VandenBos, who is retiring at the end of the year.
