SAGE, Credo, Gale, and IEEE publically disclose their support for the Open Discovery Initiative

In the cooperative spirit of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO), four leading academic content providers - Credo; Gale, a part of Cengage Learning; IEEE; and SAGE - publically disclosed their support for the Open Discovery Initiative (ODI). In NISO's Open Discovery Initiative: Promoting Transparency in Discovery (RP-19-2014), content providers are encouraged to take specific measures to declare their conformance with ODI's recommended practice for pre-indexed 'web-scale' discovery services, with the goal of increasing open communication and collaboration.

ARL joins 252 groups, 10 business leaders in a call to action for American 'Innovation Imperative'

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) has joined scores of other organizations as well as leaders of American business, industry, higher education, science, and engineering in an urgent call to action for stronger federal policies and investment to drive domestic research and development. The move follows the American Academy of Arts & Sciences (AAAS) report Restoring the Foundation: The Vital Role of Research in Preserving the American Dream.

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of Library Learning Trends, a professional development program for librarians and information resource managers. The program kicks off with four events at the American Library Association (ALA) 2015 Annual Conference in San Francisco, June 25-30.

National consortium for ORCID set to improve UK research visibility and collaboration

ORCID, a researcher identifier solution which enables a wide range of improvements to the scholarly communications ecosystem, will now be offered to UK higher education institutions through a national consortium arrangement operated by Jisc. The agreement, negotiated by Jisc Collections, will enable universities to benefit from reduced ORCID membership costs and enhanced technical support.

50,000 researchers sign up to use Kudos

Kudos, which helps maximize the reach and impact of research publications, has announced that 50,000 researchers have now signed up to use its service. They represent a broad range of subject areas; an early bias towards STEM subjects (reflecting the strengths of Kudos' original publisher partners) is gradually balancing out as the company's publisher and institutional services gain more traction – over 40 publishers and 10 institutions are now working with Kudos.

Primo Central Index to cover Wanfang Data Content in Chinese

Library automation solutions provider Ex Libris® Group has announced that the metadata of e-journals, dissertations, conference papers, and gazetteers hosted by Wanfang Data will be indexed in the Ex Libris Primo Central Index of scholarly electronic resources. As a result, this extensive content from Wanfang Data will be easily discoverable via the Ex Libris Primo® discovery service.
