Rick Anderson to chair plenary session at the ALPSP Conference

The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) has announced that Rick Anderson, Associate Dean for Scholarly Resources & Collections, Marriott Library, University of Utah, will chair a plenary session - Customers as Competitors – at the forthcoming ALPSP International Conference 2014. The ALPSP Conference is scheduled to be held from September 10-12 at the Park Inn Hotel & Conference Centre, London Heathrow, UK.

COAR responds to STM Publishing Association's statement on embargo periods

The Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR) has published a reply to STM Publishing Association's statement on embargo periods (May 28, 2014). COAR strongly supports the 'green road' for open access by means of the immediate deposit of published articles into open access (OA) repositories, with short or no embargo periods.

Elsevier launches new OA journal - New Negatives in Plant Science

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of an open access, online-only journal - New Negatives in Plant Science. The journal will publish research focusing on negative, unexpected or controversial results in fundamental plant sciences. Published work will include research articles and short communications, as well as commentaries on previously published articles.

John Wiley & Sons announces addition of Altmetric data to its journal program

Publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. has announced the addition of Altmetric data to its journal program, a service that provides a more complete picture of how users engage with scholarly research online. Following the success of a six-month pilot on Wiley Open Access titles in 2013, the service will be available for all journals by the end of July.

SAGE retracts 60 articles implicated in a peer review and citation ring at the Journal of Vibration and Control

Academic publisher SAGE has announced the retraction of 60 articles implicated in a peer review and citation ring at the Journal of Vibration and Control (JVC). The full extent of the peer review ring has been uncovered following a 14 month SAGE-led investigation, and centres on the strongly suspected misconduct of Peter Chen, formerly of National Pingtung University of Education, Taiwan (NPUE) and possibly other authors at this institution.

Texas A&M University Libraries selects EBSCO Discovery Service

EBSCO Information Services has announced that the Texas A&M University Libraries, including the Dee J. Kelly Law Library, has selected EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) to provide students and faculty with upgraded access to articles, books, images, video and other resources. The library will migrate to EDS in order to provide a better overall experience to students and researchers of every discipline and at every level.

Wolters Kluwer Health, a global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, have announced a partnership with Universidade Anhembi Morumbi to offer drug information resources and help educate healthcare students and professionals in Brazil.
