Elsevier launches new OA journal - Translational Proteomics

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of an online-only, open access journal - Translational Proteomics. The journal is devoted to transferring fundamental discoveries in the field of proteomics to clinical applications, accelerating understanding and treatment of human diseases.

IEEE-owned peer-reviewed journals now offer OA publishing options

Technical professional organisation IEEE recently announced that all IEEE-owned peer-reviewed journals now offer open-access (OA) publishing options, the latest sign of OA's growth as it continues to transform the scholarly research publishing industry. IEEE joins the open-access ranks in a big way by adding to the total figure of more than 100 journals capable of accepting open-access content.

Office of Fair Trading clears Oxford University Press's acquisition of Nelson Thornes

The Office of Fair Trading has cleared Oxford University Press (OUP)'s acquisition of Nelson Thornes. OUP, which is a department of the University of Oxford, acquired the educational publisher from Infinitas Learning in January 2013 for an undisclosed sum.

Giorgio Benedek appointed as new Editor-in-Chief for EPL

IOP Publishing, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institute of Physics, has announced that Professor Giorgio Benedek has been appointed as the new Editor-in-Chief of EPL (Europhysics Letters), a journal publishing original, high-quality letters in all areas of physics. Prof. Benedek succeeds Prof. Michael Schreiber who leaves the position at the end of a 3-year term.

IMLS updates PLS search and compare tools with FY 2011 data

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) has updated its Public Libraries in the United States Survey (PLS) search and compare tools with FY 2011 un-imputed data. The survey collects descriptive statistics annually from more than 9,000 public libraries in the US.

Biss' open access legislation passes House

Legislation State Senator Daniel Biss (D-Evanston) sponsored to work toward making state universities' taxpayer-funded research available to the public recently passed the House by a vote of 98-16. Senate Bill 1900, which will require each public university to convene an open access task force, now awaits the governor's signature.
