Serials Solutions is working with SA ePublications, a service of Sabinet Online, to index The African Electronic Journals in the Summon service. Aggregating the works of multiple publishers, this collection of nearly 400 journals represents the most comprehensive, searchable collection of South- and Southern-African journals in the world.

San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment calls for sweeping changes in scientific assessment

Scientists, journal editors and publishers, scholarly societies, and research funders across many scientific disciplines have posted an international declaration calling on the world scientific community to eliminate the role of the journal impact factor (JIF) in evaluating research for funding, hiring, promotion, or institutional effectiveness. The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment, or DORA, was framed by a group of journal editors, publishers, and others convened by the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) in December 2012 in San Francisco, during the Society's Annual Meeting.

Library Copyright Alliance submits comments on Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership

The Library Copyright Alliance (LCA) recently submitted comments on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), a trade agreement currently being negotiated between the US and the European Union (EU). While negotiations are still in their preliminary stages, LCA urges the inclusion of provisions to harmonize public access to the results of government-funded research.

AAP commends California Governor's funding proposal for Common Core implementation

The Association of American Publishers (AAP) has commended California Governor Jerry Brown's proposal for $1 billion in state funding to implement Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The move is seen to be a critical step forward in strengthening California's support of its students.
