IET President moots open access for SMEs to IP created by UK universities

Professor Andy Hopper has called on the UK government to give small and medium sized businesses open access to the intellectual property created in UK universities. He has been named the new President of European engineers and technicians society, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

University of Florida and the University of Miami libraries sign MoU to create a shared collection

The University of Florida and the University of Miami have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create the Collaborative Academic Library Collection. The Collaborative Academic Library Collection is a shared collection that will be housed in Gainesville for long-term preservation and retention of low use or duplicate library materials.

UBM Electronics to conduct one day symposium for Electronics and Design Engineering Marketing professionals at Online Marketing Summit

UBM Electronics, a US-based provider of media and marketing solutions for the design engineering and the electronics industry, has announced the 'Marketing to Engineers Symposium,' a one-day symposium targeted to electronics and design engineering marketing professionals. ClinicalTrials site updated to include new style and content, plus easier navigation

The National Library of Medicine has announced a new integrated homepage and updated graphic design for its ClinicalTrials.gov database. Users will now have access to new and reorganised content about clinical research, background information about the site, search tools and help for those maintaining study records.

Center for the History of Medicine and MPublishing collaborate to launch digital influenza archives

The University of Michigan Center for the History of Medicine, in partnership with the U-M Library's MPublishing division, has announced the release of The American Influenza Epidemic of 1918-1919: A Digital Encyclopedia, an original, open access digital collection of archival, primary, and interpretive materials related to the history of the 1918-1919 influenza epidemic in the US. The collection, located at www.influenzaarchive.org, contains more than 16,000 digitised documents.

Jack Lynch resigns from Wolters Kluwer's Member Executive Board

Professional information services provider Wolters Kluwer has announced that J.J. Lynch, Jr., Member of the Executive Board, has accepted an offer to become CEO of a company in the US software and information industry. As a consequence, Lynch will resign from the Wolters Kluwer Executive Board per November 2012. For the interim, his responsibilities will be taken over by the CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board, Nancy McKinstry.
