New ESF-EMRC Science Policy Briefing report calls for adoption of open access in biomedical sciences

The European Science Foundation's (ESF) membership organisation for all medical research councils in Europe, the European Medical Research Councils (EMRC) has released an ESF-EMRC Science Policy Briefing (SPB) entitled 'Open Access in Biomedical Research.' The ESF-EMRC Science Policy Briefing highlights the need to accelerate the adoption of open access to research articles in the biomedical sciences across Europe.

ACS journal editors meet Indian scientists and students to discuss publication of research articles on new scientific discoveries and other topics

The American Chemical Society (ACS) has announced that editors of a dozen prestigious scientific journals recently completed a highly successful two-week visit to India, where they met with more than 3,000 scientists and students to discuss publication of research articles about new scientific discoveries and other topics. The journals are among the more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific publications from the ACS, the world's largest scientific society.

Taylor & Francis Open journals adopt CC-BY license

Academic publisher Taylor & Francis has announced the adoption of the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license by its journals Open programme from the end of October 2012. For Taylor & Francis-owned Open titles, published under the Routledge Open and Taylor & Francis Open imprints, the publisher will enable authors to sign the Creative Commons Attribution license, which allows for unlimited reuse, adaptation and translation of article content, provided that the work is attributed by any subsequent user.

Journal editors express support for new open access option announced by SPIE

Journal editors are expressing enthusiastic support for a new open access option announced recently by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. The new program provides Gold Open Access upon publication for a journal article for which authors or their institutions pay voluntary page charges, beginning in January 2013.
