Frankfurt Book Fair witnesses ten percent growth in participation/networking of international content industries

The Frankfurt Book Fair ended October 14, 2012, with a small increase in visitor numbers on last year, while demonstrating the 'courage and innovative power of Europe, and of the international publishing industry'. The conference and seminar programme of the Frankfurt Academy recorded a ten percent increase in the number of participants compared to last year. Around 3,300 people used the Frankfurt Book Fair as a chance to meet the 'movers & shakers' of the digital book industry.

Global Health database from CABI hits 2 million records

Not-for-profit life sciences publisher CABI has announced that its specialist bibliographic, abstracting and indexing database, Global Health, now has over 2 million records. Derived from over 6,000 journals, reports, books and conferences, the open serials policy and coverage of international and grey literature mean that over 50 percent of the serials in Global Health are unique to the database.

The 'Perspectives of Science and Development in Azerbaijan' award ceremony was recently held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Elsevier Australia releases updated edition of mental health nursing textbook

Elsevier Australia has released the third edition of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, a textbook by Elder, Evans and Nizette. Apart from being packed with new content, the edition reportedly differs from the previous two in its strong emphasis on recovery and preventative mental health strategies.

RSC's Dr Antony Williams honoured for his work on the ChemSpider platform

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has announced that Dr Antony Williams, VP for Strategic Development and Head of the Cheminformatics group, for the RSC has been honoured by Microsoft Research for his outstanding contribution to the field of data-intensive computing, especially for his work on the ChemSpider platform. ChemSpider is a freely available chemical structure database that provides fast text and structure search access to data and links for over 28 million chemicals, from hundreds of data sources.

LCA welcomes court decision in favour of HathiTrust library using digitised works

The Library Copyright Alliance (LCA) has welcomed Judge Harold Baer's decision saying that the HathiTrust Digital Library's use of digitised works is a fair use permitted under the Copyright Act. Baer's ruling allows HathiTrust to continue serving scholars and the print disabled.
