Penguin, Random House merged to create global consumer publishing organisation

Two European media companies Pearson and Bertelsmann have announced an agreement to create the world's leading consumer publishing organisation by combining Penguin and Random House. The combination is stated to bring together two of the world's leading English language publishers, with highly complementary skills and strengths.

Palgrave Pivot launches with publication of 21 new titles

Palgrave Macmillan has announced the launch of Palgrave Pivot, a new initiative that seeks to break down the boundaries of publishing research. Palgrave Pivot, which publishes peer-reviewed research at lengths between the journal article and the monograph, has brought out 21 new titles.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust and the Bodleian Libraries in deal with Elsevier for ClinicalKey

STM publisher Elsevier has signed a one-year agreement with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust (OUH) and the Bodleian Libraries providing access to ClinicalKey. Launched earlier this year, ClinicalKey draws answers from the largest proprietary collection of clinical resources, covering every medical and surgical specialty.

Serials Solutions Summon Service expands Japanese-language content with Japan Medical Abstracts Society

Serials Solutions, a ProQuest business, and the Japan Medical Abstracts Society (JAMAS) have improved access to Japanese-language article abstracts in Ichushi-Web through the Summon web-scale discovery service. The inclusion of metadata from the JAMAS abstracting and indexing database for more than 5,800 journals covering medicine, dentistry and pharmacy subjects will be available to mutual subscribers of each company's service.

Article level metrics are increasingly being used by authors and readers to view the wider impact of an article beyond traditional citations.
