NFAIS elects new Board of Directors leadership for 2018-2019

The National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAISTM), a global non-profit membership organisation serving the information services community, has announced its Board of Directors slate for 2018-2019. The new NFAIS Board assembled for its first meeting at the NFAIS 2018 Annual Conference, on March 2, in Alexandria, VA.

Max-Planck-Gesellschaft and IOP Publishing announce new pilot agreement to help grow the society's participation in OA publishing

Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (MPG) and IOP Publishing (IOP) have announced a new pilot agreement to help grow the society's participation in open access publishing. The new Institutional Research Licence has been developed by IOP to enable institutions to manage the cost of hybrid article publication charges (APCs) against their journals licence fee, enabling institutions to support the participation of their researchers in open access publishing.

Funding for scientific research marks new Canadian federal budget

The Canadian federal government recently released its annual budget, including a nearly-$4 billion (US $3.1 billion) increase in funding for science over the next five years. A sizeable amount of the funding will go directly to Canada's three granting councils, a critical recognition on behalf of the government of the importance of fundamental research.

University of Missouri System and McGraw-Hill Education in deal to expand access to affordable course materials

Learning science company McGraw-Hill Education and the University of Missouri System have announced a new agreement that will increase student access to affordable course materials, lowering the cost of all McGraw-Hill Education electronic textbooks by an additional 38 percent to meet the University's definition of low cost. McGraw-Hill Education will offer its entire higher education eBook catalogue through the university's AutoAccess program. The initial agreement gives students access to content purchased for five years.

Danish Medical Association and Cardiff University Press to preserve OA e-journals with Portico

Digital preservation service Portico has announced that the Danish Medical Association and the Cardiff University Press will preserve their open access e-journals with Portico, ensuring that their content will be secure and available into the future. The Danish Medical Association is a medical professional association in Denmark having a membership of approximately 29,600. Based out of Wales in the United Kingdom, Cardiff University Press has become a Diamond Open Access publisher for academic research and scholarly journals.

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to move flagship journal Environmental Health Perspectives to Atypon's Literatum online publishing platform

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), one of the institutes comprising the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), will move its flagship journal, Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP), to Atypon's Literatum online publishing platform. It will be the first US government publication hosted on Literatum and is the result of a competitive federal bid.
