Open access is the future of academic and scientific publishing, says new Springer Nature survey

The overwhelming majority of professional staff in research institutions and libraries across the globe view open access as the future of academic and scientific publishing. However, many are not satisfied with the speed of transition, according to a survey by Springer Nature. The survey of 200 people aimed to gather opinions from people working in research institutions or research libraries, and who have responsibilities relating to scholarly communications, institutional policy, funding administration, or research data or publication management.

Clarivate Analytics appoints Caroline Birkle as new General Manager of Converis

Data company Clarivate Analytics has announced the appointment of Caroline Birkle as the General Manager of their leading research information management system, Converis. Converis supports universities, research institutions and funding agencies in collecting and managing data across the research life cycle. Birkle will join Converis on April 16th 2018. Based in Karlsruhe, Germany, she will manage an international team across Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia.

BMJ and ELM to roll out Clinical Decision Support Training for healthcare professionals in Jordan and Iraq

Medical knowledge provider BMJ is implementing an ambitious Clinical Decision Support (CDS) Training Initiative, aimed at improving differential diagnosis of infectious diseases, as well as achieving broader healthcare outcomes in Jordan and Iraq. The Initiative provides clinicians and healthcare professionals with evidence-based online tools and resources, including BMJ Best Practice and BMJ Learning, to improve the diagnosis, treatment and management of both communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Journal of Biological Chemistry appoints three new associate editors

The Journal of Biological Chemistry has appointed Phyllis Hanson, Karin Musier–­­Forsyth, and Michael Shipston as associate editors. The three new editors bring expertise in intracellular cell membranes, RNA biology, and ion channel signalling to the journal. The three new associate editors will serve five-year terms.

Hindawi signs new membership agreement with Delft University of Technology

Hindawi has signed a new membership agreement with the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). Article Processing Charges (APCs) for accepted manuscripts, where the corresponding author is affiliated with TU Delft, will now be funded directly by the university. APCs funded in this way will also be discounted by 10%.

University of the Basque Country of Spain selects OCLC WorldShare Management Services

The University of the Basque Country, the public research institution in the Basque Country of Spain, has selected OCLC WorldShare Management Services as its new cloud-based library services platform. WorldShare Management Services (WMS) provides all of the applications needed to manage a library, including acquisitions, circulation, resource sharing, metadata and license management, and a discovery service for library users.
