Chemical Abstracts Service registers 100 millionth chemical substance in CAS REGISTRY

Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), the world's authority for chemical information, has registered the 100 millionth chemical substance in the CAS REGISTRY, in the 50th anniversary year of the world's largest database of unique chemical substances. With a steady increase in patenting activity around the globe, it is not surprising the 100 millionth small molecule registration comes from a patent. In this case, the substance was reported in a World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) patent (WO 2015081280) from Coferon, Inc.

Elsevier announces 2014 Citation Impact highlights

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the highlights of its journal Impact Factor performance in 2014. According to the 2014 Journal Citation Reports® (JCR) published by Thomson Reuters, Elsevier saw 55 percent of its journal Impact Factors increase from 2013 to 2014, ahead of the aggregate across other journals. In 2014, Elsevier journals occupied the top rank in 62 subject categories, up from 61 in 2013.

Thieme Chemistry releases Science of Synthesis 4.1

Scientific publisher Thieme Chemistry has announced Science of Synthesis (SOS) 4.1, the latest release of its unique full-text resource for methods and experimental procedures in synthetic organic chemistry. Available as of June, Science of Synthesis will include the latest Knowledge Updates and additions from the Reference Library – a total of approximately 1,650 printed pages of new material. NFAIS launches Lunch & Learn Virtual Education Series

The National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAISTM), a global, nonprofit membership organisation serving the information community, has announced the launch of a virtual program called the NFAIS Lunch & Learn Education Series. As part of this program, NFAIS invites information experts and professionals to submit presentations to speak in one of the scheduled Lunch & Learn webinars beginning in September 2015.

EBSCO and the H. W. Wilson Foundation expand partnership to build an open dissertations database

EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) and the H.W. Wilson Foundation are expanding their partnership with the goal of making searching for electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) easier and more open. The goal is to create a single portal for ETDs which can be added to university profiles and accessed online at www.opendissertations.com.
