O'Reilly Media acquires Pearson's 50 percent interest in Safari Books Online, attains full ownership

O'Reilly Media, Inc. has acquired Pearson's 50 percent interest in Safari Books Online, LLC. Safari is now a wholly owned subsidiary of O'Reilly. Developed by O'Reilly and launched as a joint venture with Pearson in 2001, Safari will continue to operate as an independent entity. All current Safari content and services, from over 200 publishers and imprints, will continue to be available at safaribooksonline.com.

Springer announces five-year renewal agreement with Chile's CINCEL

STM publisher Springer has entered into a five-year renewal agreement with the Consorcio para el Acceso a la Información Científica Electrónica (CINCEL) in Chile. The new deal extends access to Springer's published research to more than twice as many institutions.

BioMed Central reports significant increase in impact factors of several key titles

Open access publisher BioMed Central has announced that a total of 71 journals in its publishing portfolio have seen their Impact Factors increase in the recently published Journal Citation Report 2013. This year 12 journals received their first Impact Factor, so 162 journals out of 265 BioMed Central journals now have an Impact Factor, with a further seven being tracked by Thomson Reuters.
