Springer set to publish new online-only journal - ChemTexts

STM publisher Springer will publish a new online-only journal called ChemTexts –The Textbook Journal of Chemistry, beginning in 2015. With four issues a year and 250 pages per issue, ChemTexts will impart contemporary knowledge in all subdivisions of chemistry to students at an exceptionally high didactic level.

MSU Libraries implement Summon Discovery tool

The Michigan State University Libraries have selected the Summon® discovery service from ProQuest for implementation at the nation's pioneer land-grant university. The service launched at the beginning of this month with a number of activities planned to educate students and faculty about this new tool.

IEEE to launch OA journal IEEE Life Sciences Letters

Technical professional organisation IEEE has announced plans to launch IEEE Life Sciences Letters (LSL), a new digital, peer reviewed open-access journal dedicated to the timely publication of high-quality manuscripts that apply methods of quantitative analysis to biological problems at the molecular, cellular, organ, human and/or population levels. The key scientific themes addressed will include personalised medicine, pharmaceutical engineering, synthetic biology, and systems biology.

Unbound MEDLINE named 2014 Tabby Award winner

Unbound Medicine, a US-based provider of knowledge management solutions for the healthcare industry, has been named the winner of the best overall Medical app at the 2014 Tabby Awards. More than 200 iPad and Android tablet apps from over 20 countries around the world entered the competition where Unbound's Unbound MEDLINE - PubMed, Journals, and Grapherence Access app was selected as one of the 49 best tablet apps in the world.

IFLA Journal appoints Steve Witt as new editor

The IFLA Journal has announced the appointment of Steve Witt as the new Editor. Steve will take over editorial responsibilities from Stephen Parker from Volume 41, Issue 1. He brings to this role experience in editing an open access journal, extensive experience as an author, reviewer of scholarly publications, and a strong international network.

The latest edition of Blogspeak is now online. Featured are: Alice Meadows (Public Access: Getting More Research to More People); Timo Hannay (Stop the deluge of science research); Rob Farrow (The Open Educational Resources Impact Map: researching impact through openness and collaboration); Jill O'Neill (Libraries and Kindle Unlimited); and Andrea Peterson (Why open access advocates aren't thrilled with the DOE's plan to expand public access to its research).
