EU rejects international solution to library and archive copyright problems

Discussions by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Standing Committee on Copyright & Related Rights (SCCR) broke down in the early hours of May 3, after the European Union (EU) attempted to block future discussion of copyright laws to aid libraries and archives fulfil their missions in the digital environment. The meeting ended in disarray, after the EU tried to have crucial references to "text-based" work on copyright exceptions removed from the meeting conclusions.

Thomson Reuters and National Research Foundation of Korea collaborate to make content from Korean Citation Index accessible via Web of Science

The Intellectual Property and Science business of Thomson Reuters has announced a collaboration with the National Research Foundation of Korea to make content from the Korean Citation Index (KCI) accessible via the Web of Science, the premier search and discovery platform for the sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities. This initiative will bring greater visibility and improved access to valuable research being produced in South Korea, particularly in social sciences and humanities.

Wolters Kluwer Health to adopt one-price print and digital book bundling for medical practice market

Healthcare information provider Wolters Kluwer Health has announced plans to offer customers a one-price purchasing model that bundles InklingTM-powered eBooks with print counterparts for 2014 titles being offered to the medical professional market. The company has entered into a multi-year agreement with Inkling, a leading digital publishing platform, to turn existing and new titles into platform-agnostic eBooks designed to enhance the digital experience and help readers get the most from their Wolters Kluwer Health content.

The Elsevier Foundation is seeking new grant proposals for the 2014 New Scholars and Innovative Libraries in Developing Countries programs. The deadline for applications is June 17, 2014. Grants will be awarded in December 2014 and provide one, two or three year awards between US$ 5,000 to US$ 50,000 per year for a total of US$100,000.

Full text of entire EBL - Ebook Library catalogue now discoverable via Summon discovery service

ProQuest is boosting the visibility of ebooks in library collections by indexing the full text of the entire catalogue of EBL - Ebook Library in its Summon® discovery service. EBL's expansive catalogue of more than 400,000 ebooks is now even more discoverable alongside titles from ebrary, which have been full-text indexed in the Summon service since 2012. The work to broaden discovery and accessibility of ebooks is occurring simultaneously with another major project: the integration of EBL and ebrary into a single ebook solution.

SAGE's Ed McBride elected United for Libraries president-elect

Ed McBride, executive director of library sales for SAGE, has been elected 2014-2015 United for Libraries vice president/president elect. McBride was formerly chief member engagement officer at LYRASIS, senior vice president of Cengage Gale's Customer Resource Center and director of support services for the San Francisco Public Library. He is currently enrolled in the MLS-Executive Librarian Program at San Jose State University.

Atypon integrates CrossRef's CrossMark service in Literatum 14.1
