Scope reaches a new milestone for TranSCIse

Scope eKnowledge Center has announced that it has now successfully delivered more than 2.7 million English abstracts for non-English language documents. Leveraging this experience, Scope developed TranSCIse, a technology-enabled hybrid abstraction and indexing solution for enhancing the discoverability of non-English literature in search engines and A&I services. Wiley, ASPET and BPS partner to launch new OA journal - Pharmacology Research & Perspectives

Publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc., The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) and the British Pharmacological Society (BPS) have announced their partnership to publish the new open access, peer-reviewed journal, Pharmacology Research & Perspectives, which will open for submissions in April 2013. Dr. Michael J. Curtis will serve as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal.

Springer teams up with CIC host publishing symposium to bring publishers and librarians together

STM publisher Springer and the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) held their first-ever publishing symposium at University of Chicago's Gleacher Center on March 7, 2013. The gathering was established as an important opportunity to create dialogue between early-career publishers and librarians, in an effort to nurture closer collaboration as both consider the future of scholarly communication.

Royal Society of Chemistry adopts CC BY licence for Gold OA papers

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has announced that it is making a change to copyright arrangements for open access papers published in RSC journals. Beginning April 1, 2013, authors will have the option to publish under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license when choosing to publish their research via the Gold open access route.

Over 100 A&I databases indexed in Serials Solutions Summon discovery service

Serials Solutions has announced that the Summon discovery service now includes content from more than 100 abstract and indexing (A&I) databases - including nearly 90 ProQuest databases. The A&I content is leveraged through a match and merge technology that combines different types of data from multiple sources.

UK publishers, other stakeholders discuss challenges in implementing OA policies

Representatives from the UK government, funders, libraries, university administrators, learned societies, publishers and researchers came together at a conference on February 25, sponsored by five of the leading British learned societies. The agenda was to discuss the challenges of implementing open access policies.

Cengage Learning joins Indiana University eTexts Initiative

Cengage Learning, US-based provider of teaching, learning and research solutions, has signed an agreement with Indiana University (IU) as part of the IU eTexts Initiative. As part of the agreement, Cengage Learning will deliver eTextbooks, digital materials and online service offerings to students at all IU campuses.
