Siberian Regional Universities Consortium in deal with Elsevier for access to ScienceDirect and Scopus

STM publisher Elsevier has announced its official collaboration with the Siberian Regional Universities Consortium, providing 9 universities in Central Siberia with access to ScienceDirect and Scopus beginning in 2013. This will provide Siberian researchers with access to research literature from around the world, allowing them to stay abreast of scientific developments in their field.

Springer and the Italian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology announce publishing partnership

STM publisher Springer and the Italian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (SIUMB) have agreed to a five-year partnership to publish the Journal of Ultrasound, starting in 2013 with Volume 16. The journal will be available exclusively in electronic format on SpringerLink.

InnoCentive and Scientific American partner to facilitate open innovation

IEEE forms 802.24 Smart Grid Technical Advisory Group

IEEE has formed the IEEE 802.24 Smart Grid Technical Advisory Group. The entity is a collaborative umbrella organisation that works with multiple IEEE 802 working groups and will liaise with key smart grid ecosystem stakeholders, such as regulatory agencies, other standards development bodies and industry organisations.

IHS iSuppli report predicts significant fall in e-book readers market

After spectacular growth in the last few years, the e-book reader market is on a precipitous decline, sent reeling by nimble tablet devices that have gained the ardent patronage of consumers, according to an IHS iSuppli Consumer Electronics special report from information and analytics provider IHS. Shipments of e-book readers by year-end will fall to 14.9 million units, down a steep 36 percent from the 23.2 million units in 2011 that now appears to have been the peak of the e-book reader market, the report says.

La Pérouse Library of Ifremer selects OCLC WorldShare Management Services and WorldCat Local

Library information provider OCLC has announced that the La Pérouse Library of Ifremer, the French Research Institute for Exploration of the Sea, has chosen OCLC WorldShare Management Services as its new library management solution and WorldCat Local as its integrated discovery service. Preparations for implementation of both services at Ifremer are already under way.
